About the Department

The Department of Economics at Ghaghra Science College, Bagodar is dedicated to developing analytical thinking, economic reasoning, and an informed understanding of socio-economic issues among students. Economics, as a discipline, equips learners to interpret how individuals, institutions, markets, and governments interact in a dynamic and changing world.

The Department was established in 2021 and functions under the academic framework of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. Over the years, the Department has aligned itself with evolving higher education reforms, including the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for the session 2021-24 and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP–2020) from the academic session 2022-26 onwards as per the guidelines of the University.

Through classroom teaching, discussions, and applied learning, the department aims to prepare students for academic advancement, competitive examinations, and diverse career pathways. The Department under the able leadership of H.O.D. Dr. Ranjan Kumar is performing well in the field.

Infrastructure

The Department of Economics is supported by basic yet functional infrastructure that meets academic requirements. Facilities include:

• Classroom space suitable for interactive teaching
• Access to reference materials and journals through the library
• Availability of digital learning resources and e-content (as per availability)

While modest, the infrastructure provides a conducive environment for effective learning.

Curriculum Plan

The curriculum is designed in accordance with Vinoba Bhave University guidelines and the NEP–2020 framework. It emphasizes:

• Core concepts of Economics
• Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary learning
• Skill enhancement and applied knowledge
• Continuous internal assessment and end-semester evaluation

The curriculum is periodically updated to remain relevant to academic and societal needs.

Course Structure

The undergraduate programme in Economics includes:

• Major (Honours) courses for in-depth subject specialization
• Minor and Multidisciplinary courses for broader academic exposure
• Skill Enhancement and Ability Enhancement courses
• Semester-wise progression under the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP)

Both theoretical understanding and analytical application are integral to the course structure.

Programme & Course Outcomes

Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to:

• Understand and apply microeconomic and macroeconomic principles
• Analyze economic data and policy issues critically

Departmental Library Resources

The Department maintains access to a select collection of Economics books and reference materials through the library. Though limited in volume, the resources adequately support undergraduate teaching and learning.

Student Progression

Student progression is continuously monitored through:

• Academic mentoring and counselling

Many students pursue postgraduate studies, B.Ed., competitive examinations, or enter employment and self-employment sectors after graduation.
