About the Department

The Department of Geography at Ghaghra Science College, Bagodar was established in the year 2021 with the objective of promoting geographical knowledge and spatial understanding among undergraduate students. Geography, being an interdisciplinary subject, bridges the natural and social sciences and enables learners to understand the dynamic relationship between humans and their environment.

The department focuses on developing conceptual clarity in physical, human, and regional geography, while also introducing students to contemporary geographical tools and techniques. With classroom instruction, practical work, and academic activities, the department strives to create a learning environment that is engaging, analytical, and application-oriented. Under the guidance of H.O.D. Ms Amrita Jyoti Toppo the Department is reaching milestones both at academic and extracurricular activities.

  • To develop geographical awareness for addressing day-to-day environmental and societal issues.
  • To promote academic and research interest in various branches of Geography.
  • To impart knowledge of spatial distribution, spatial organization, and spatial interaction of physical and cultural features of the Earth.
  • To enhance map-reading, interpretation, and analytical skills.
  • To ensure quality education with a balance of theory and practical learning.

  • Regular classroom teaching with emphasis on conceptual understanding
  • Organization of seminars, workshops, and academic discussions
  • Practical training in map work and geographical interpretation
  • Encouragement of student participation in field-based and observational learning. Recent field study was done at various geographically important sites like Parasnath Hills, Rajdaha Dham, Patratu etc.
  • Academic mentoring and guidance for higher studies and competitive examinations
