About the Department

The Department of History at Ghaghra Science College, Bagodar is committed to the study and interpretation of the human past in order to understand the present and shape the future. History as a discipline enables students to analyze social, political, economic, and cultural transformations across time and space.

The department was established in the year 2021 and has been offering undergraduate education in History under the academic supervision of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. Over the years, the department has contributed to academic growth by nurturing students who have gone on to pursue higher education, competitive examinations, and careers in diverse fields. The Department under the strong leadership of Prof Basudeo Mahto is doing well.

Course Structure

The department follows the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) under NEP–2020.

  • History Major (Honours): Semester-wise papers from Semester I to Semester VIII, covering core, elective, and advanced courses.
  • History Minor & Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC): Designed for students from other disciplines.
  • Advanced Major Courses: Offered in later semesters for in-depth subject specialization.

Most courses include both internal assessment and external university examination, as prescribed by the University.
